Den Lille Havfrue - The Little Mermaid

Royal Guard at Amalienborg Castle (where the Queen lives)

Frederikssund Castle in Hillerod

Frederikssund Castle Chapel ceiling (Dad, my picture is so sharp you can see the cobwebs).

Hillerod was such a charming little town with a few family-run shops and an arcade (little mall) for the tourists. All of which closed at 4 pm.
It was the third time Michael's company was sending him to Denmark and it was going to be over my birthday, but because he is such a fabulous husband he decided that I should go too! He was there for 2 weeks and I came for 5 days in the middle of his trip. As the pictures show, Denmark is a beautiful country with unbelievable castles and history. One characteristic that sets Danish castles apart from others we've seen are the bridges and moats. I think all castles should have moats!!
We rode the train to some of the castles and walked to others, but each one had a different charm. In the time Michael was in Denmark there was only 3 hours of sunshine in 14 days. Lucky for me, the 3 hours were during my first day there so Denmark seemed great to me! The rest of the time was overcast and drizzly with temperatures in the high 30s/low 40s. It sounds like it would be miserable, but it was very cool to see Scandinavia (even the dark skies), the castles, and how Danish people live. It was great! We were also lucky enough to have dinner at Michael's colleague's house. Joakim invited us over to eat/socialize with him, his wife, and three adorable blonde children. None of the kids speak English yet (they begin English classes in 3rd grade), but we played a little with the baby and enjoyed talking with Joakim and his wife.
